Pickle King dislikes pickle juice and cannot fit on the boat, which is being proudly sailed by a Witch Unicorn Owl. The Pirate Snail is just infatuated with the urchins

In this weeks prompts, we had the “Pickle King”, a “Pirate Snial” and “Witch Unicorn Owl”. I started off with a quick speed model of a snail in Spline to see if I could replicate the basic shape and shell. This was enough to spur a proper engagement of the idea, so I went into Blender and starting modelling.
Quite happy with the basic shape, I slapped a skull head with some tweaks to make it look like the sanil is wearing a helmet of sorts, and ofcourse I had to atleast have a pirate hat. It then occured to me that the snail would probably fit my previous Pirate Cove scene so I appended assets to my scene and played around with some poses and still shots. At first I used materials from my existing library, I almost ended up going with a glass or wood snail :), but after a quick duplication and tweaking of a few materials I soon had all new snail materials.
I also created some new materials, an awesome translucent shell material, a new Eye procedural material and some others like a realistic pickle material and gradient hair materials.
Im quite pleased with how how it all turned out. I think the snail is one of my new favourite pieces of work, it was also my first attempt at such an organic creature.
The other few characters, the pickle, owl and fungus, I made as part of a personal challenge to hone the skills I had learned while making the snail, practising speed without compromising workflow and quality.
There are still a few teaks to make to the materials and Id like to clean up the rigs further(no mixamo rigs here), but I hope this puts a smile on your face in the meanwhile!
